Prevention: It Is Within Your Control

Prevention is #1 Defense Against Cancer

We all like scented lotions, perfume, room sprays, candles, plug-ins. I did also until I learned how they can affect my health.

Sadly the chemical ingredients in health and beauty products are hormone disruptors, known carcinogens and are linked to breast cancer. There are over 9000 chemicals approved in the U.S. that affect cancer.

Toxic Ingredients in Products

As a proactive way to reduce exposure and your risk of cancer remove these ingredients from your home:

  • Phthalates - candle, plug-ins, scented lotions, body sprays, makeup products.

  • Parabens - makeup, deodorant, skin care products, sunscreen, soaps.

  • Aluminum - deodorant/antiperspirant products

  • PTFE/PFOA - cosmetics (foundations, powders), dental floss.

  • Synthetic color/dyes - shampoo, soaps, toothpaste, medications and vitamins, lipsticks.

There are a lot of products on the market that are safer. Here are some of my favorite alternatives and swaps to reduce harmful toxins in your beauty products.

Making Changes Can Be Overwhelming

It can be stressful to think about swapping out your personal care products. I know this first hand and gave myself grace and allowed myself time to make the swap.

Start with one or two products and move slowly through the swap transition. When one product runs out, replace it with a cleaner option.

One step at a time.

The Good News

It’s NOT too late to switch to non toxic products.

This study found that switching to beauty & personal care products without parabens and phthalates turned breast cancer genes off in just 28 days.

Awareness is prevention.

Here are my personal recommendations for non toxic beauty & personal care products.
